Intent:

At Church Hill C of E Junior School every child is recognised as a unique individual and this is how we tailor our pupil premium. Through our vision, “Let Your Light Shine” (Matthew 5:16) we aspire for ALL children to celebrate their strengths and be proud of their achievements. Through care and commitment, we are devoted to ensure disadvantaged pupils break the cycle of deprivation. We pride ourselves on ‘knowing our families’ and with this child-centred approach we endeavour that on leaving our school, pupils are able to lead a life rich in knowledge, extra-curricular talents and mental stability. We recognise there is no ‘quick fix’ however our passion shines strong with the mantra that our school can make a difference to combat some of the inequalities within our society.

As a Church of England school, leaders within our setting ‘pursue social justice and wellbeing of all, showing love for the disadvantaged, marginalised and vulnerable’- just as Jesus did through the many references of His good work in the bible. ‘The founding of the National Society saw the Church of England at the vanguard of providing mass education for the poor of the country from 1811 onwards’. This is a legacy we are passionate about carrying forward through the principles of the established religion through our school’s 12 values.

This was recognised by Ofsted in our 2016 inspection. 

"The leader with the responsibility for pupil premium funding manages this area with great rigour. The funds are carefully targeted to meet pupils’ different needs, including the needs of most-able pupils. As a result of this work, disadvantaged pupils are making good or better progress and achieving higher standards.".

What is Pupil Premium?

This is additional pupil funding given to schools to target pupils who are facing the greatest disadvantage. This includes children from low income families, looked after children and those with parents in the armed forces. Eligibility for Pupil Premium is also provided for pupils who have been eligible for Free School Meals at any point in the last 6 years (known as the Ever6 Free school meals measure).

The level of Pupil Premium set for 2023 - 2024 by the government is £1,455 per pupil.

In addition, schools will also receive £2,530 for each looked-after pupil who has been looked after for 1 day or more, was adopted from care on or after 30 December 2005, or left care under a special guardianship order or a residence order. A Service Premium (£335) is available for children whose parents are currently or have served (in the last 3 years) in the Armed Forces.

Objectives of Pupil Premium Expenditure

Our key objectives at Church Hill C of E Junior School is to use the Pupil Premium:

• to ensure pupils are equipped with the appropriate level of knowledge and skills in English & Maths by the time they leave KS2. 
• to ensure eligible pupils access extra-curricular enrichment allowing them to gain exposure to interests, hobbies and talents they hold (with a focus on sports, music, arts and enterprise).
• to build the school’s pastoral team to ensure support extends further to the family and community, creating a unique relationship based around the social, emotional needs of those closest to the pupil and the child’s mental welfare.

Recovery Premium funding

Additional funding has been given to schools in the 2021 to 2022 academic year to support schools with education recovery following COVID-19. It is based on pupil premium eligibility to provide further support to disadvantaged pupils and therefore details of this spending can be found within the Pupil Premium Strategy document below. 

During the academic year 2020-2021, children returned from another period of lockdown which has meant that some children lost learning time. The government issued all schools with a 'Catch Up Premium'. Details of this can be found separately under the tab on the left titled 'Catch Up Premium'.

• De Bono's Thinking Hats to increase discussion & metacognition
• Strengthening the school's use of technology 
• Interventions for pupils needing further academic support 
• Pastoral team consisting of 1 ELSA + 4 pastoral leads across the school
• Residential trips and visits 
• School clubs before and after school
• School uniform
• Homework club
• Attendance support
• Parental support
